Diocesan Contacts from Queensland Gather
diocesan-gathering-3.jpgIn August Diocesan Contacts from Cairns, Townsville, Brisbane and Toowoomba gathered at Mercy Place, Bardon to discuss the participation of women in the Church.  Cathy Spencer, Jean Tanzer, Bernadette Kreutzer and Sue Flood traveled to be part of this discussion.  We were mindful that Margaret Perkins wasn’t with us on this occasion due to illness and wish her every blessing for her recovery.

Throughout the day a variety of topics were discussed including a reflection on World Youth Day.  Fran Byrne, Archdiocese of Brisbane, World Youth Day Secretariat highlighted the many positive aspects of this great event in the Catholic Church in Australia and detailed the experiences in Parishes following the week in Sydney.  The interaction between pilgrims and host families, old and young people and members of the general public will be a lasting memory for many people.  The opportunity for young people to express their faith with many other people with similar values proved to be a confidence builder in many situations.  In workplaces, on streets and in homes people were talking about what it means to be Catholic.

While there was no denying the wonderful experiences and opportunities for young Catholics to express their faith in such a public way, concern was also raised about the model of Church that was presented as part of this celebration.

The diocesan contacts also had an opportunity to meet with the Council for Australian Catholic Women and then share a meal together.
