Introducing Sr Jo Armour OP |
I am a Dominican Sister of the Holy Cross Congregation in Adelaide. I joined the
Dominicans in my late 30s after feeling drawn to consider the question of
entering religious life. Brought up as an Anglican, I was in training for the
priesthood in the Anglican church when I met the Dominican Sisters. I was
attracted by their forward thinking, their scholarship, their love of life and
their commitment to humanity.
I have been a secondary school teacher for over twenty years in various
schools in South Australia.
I am currently the Deputy Principal of St Dominic’s Priory
College, an R-12 Catholic school for
girls in North Adelaide. I enjoy the
interaction with these enthusiastic young women who have their lives ahead of
them and who have hope for a better world in which peace and justice prevail
for all people.
In 2001, I completed a Ph.D. in systematic theology. My doctorate is
entitled, Revisioning the Ordained Ministry, and involves a
correlation between the work of Edward Schillebeeckx, OP and feminist
theologians.
As well as an involvement in school administration, I am a passionate
teacher of Studies of Religion, and I
am strongly committed to the more effective participation of women in the life
of our Catholic church.
My interests include physical fitness, walking, cycling and photography.
I also enjoy travelling and meeting people from cultures that are different
from my own.
