Promoting the participation of women in the life and leadership of the Church

Young Women's Interfaith Fellowship 2014 participants

Who we are

We are a faith-filled group of women and men concerned about the role of women in the Catholic Church.

What we do

We ensure that the rich variety of women’s voices are heard by the bishops of Australia.

The Council for Australian Catholic Women (CACW) provides advice to the Bishops Commission for Church Ministry about women and their participation in the Catholic Church in Australia.

The Office for the Participation of Women (OPW) is a focal point for ongoing dialogue and the integration of ideas pertaining to the women and their participation in the Catholic Church in Australia. The Office and the Council work closely and collaboratively to “ensure that the dignity of women is honoured and their gifts are given space to flourish for the sake of the Church’s life and mission” (Social Justice Sunday Statement 2000).

The Bishops Commission for Church Ministry (BCCM) promotes the life and mission of the Catholic Church in Australia by being informed and offering advice in a number of areas relating to ministering to the People of God.
